Hiatus
It's summer, I'm lazy, and so are you. So I'll be off blogging for awhile.
Those of happier thoughts may think this is an opportunity to read, reflect, and hang with wife and kids.
Those more cynical might suggest that I've run out of things to say.
Perhaps both are right, but I will be back. Probably August.
And, for those who are in the know: EmmaFest--August 9. You know where.

And here I was thinking that you were preparing a scathing attack on Obama for doing exactly the same things you formerly accused Hillary of: triangulation, saying anything to get elected, flip-flopping, moving to the center—in essence being an old-fashioned politician after all, rather than the “change we can believe in.” Still, though Obama has clearly changed, I don’t expect your blind and deluded defense of him to do so as well.
Golly gee. I don't even have to blog; you already know what I think.
And if I don't say something, well, you already know what it would be.
I've signed the petition and written Obama about FISA; I've decided not to send him any money because of his stance on telecom immunity. I also don't agree with his recent comments on late term abortion.
But you already knew that, didn't you, Kreskin?
I'd be most pleased to read your own insights into all these things that I've failed to address to your satisfaction.
Anonymous' crystal ball must either be cloudy or out of round--it was way off in its prediction. I know when I see "Hiatus", I think "attack on Obama".
Would it be too much to ask that who ever uses the word 'flip-flop' for anything other than footwear get flicked in the ear? Or perhaps is given a wet-willy? I think it would greatly improve the dialogue this country isn't having, or at minimum, give the appropriate visual accompaniment for that particular verbal tool. I for one would like to see all those talking heads twinge every time they say it. What a nice thought that is. Maybe then they'd stop and think before they spit out their jibber-jabber.
Will the abortion topic ever die? There seems to be quite the spectrum of opinions on the topic and all but very few of them are absolutely nuts, mine being one of the few acceptable stances of course.
Well, anonymous seems to be kind of cranky. Post-partum syndrome?
I'm always glad that anyone reads this thing, and even more glad when he or she comments. Doesn't prevent me from replying, of course.
It is odd that it is seen as a sign of weakness, in all cases, to change one's mind. I wonder if anyone would say the Catholic Church "flip flopped" about regarding Jews as "Christ killers"?
Obama had you all fooled. A conservative in a liberals coat….Now you have to live with it. Hillary was the best for the job and the so called “liberal” wing of the party pushed her aside. Now we have the prospect of Faith-based organizations being promoted, FISA, Backing away from Iraq promises, etc. If you really wanted Change, you would have elected a woman named Hillary, who, by the way, voted against the FISA bill.

Oh, how quickly we move from “she’ll say anything to get elected” to “it’s OK to change one’s mind.”
Do you even have an inkling as to how inconsistent your positions are? If you were a Republican, everybody, including yourself, would be rightfully laughing at you.

That was too mean. How about this...
Counterfactual thinking's fun when you can engage in it. To think Hillary wouldn't have changed her colors to suit her chances of winning is ridiculous, or as Sarsippius would say, "ricockulous".
"Oh, how quickly we move from “she’ll say anything to get elected” to “it’s OK to change one’s mind."
I'd be glad for you to cite where I suggested that Clinton would say anything to get elected. I simply think Obama is, overall, a better candidate, and, obviously enough, some people agree with me.
That he changed his mind on some issues of importance is troubling. So is the fact that Clinton has never really expressed regret for her vote on the war.
FISA, late-term abortion, the death penalty are problematic; the gun thing less so, to my mind. To suggest that this a) makes him a conservative and that b) changing one's mind on a few, albeit important, issues entails having no positions whatseover: well, both are inferential leaps.
Clinton got beat. It's time to figure out whether that means you want McCain or Obama in the White House. If one demands purity to remain wholly consistent, that's lovely. But not part of the reality-based community.
I've yet to vote for someone who passes that test, including Bill Clinton. I wasn't thrilled about some of his economic policies, or his return to Arkansas to watch over the execution of Rickey Ray Rector. But that didn't mean I wanted Bush sr. to be Prez.
